Tonka Toys

Tonka toys were first made by a company called mound metalcraft back in 1947, the company back then was mainly concerned with the manufacture of gardening equipment.

They knew that gardening tools had to be really tough so they took this knowledge and started to apply it to the manufacturer of tonka toys, they started producing what is known as one of the toughest toys ever produced.

The first two designs of tonka toys started with the crane and the steam shovel, in there first year of production they produced over 30,000 of this type of toy.

At one stage the demand for these trucks was so great that one year production would be sold out in a matter of a few months, parents realised the true value in buying one of the new tonka toys in that it would entertain there kids and last for years.

What began with just two now resembles a multitude of different designs and playsets, they say that in the 60 years they have been producing tonka toys they have manufactured over 250 million of them.

The reason these are so popular is the fact you can treat them as rough as you want, they can with stand the roughest of play and when tonka say they are tough they mean it.

The most popular tonka toys of all time was the dump truck, this was first introduced in 1964 and was the best selling truck ever produced.

In the late sixties and early seventies are when the mighty tonka range really started to take off, they started producing designs such as the mighty crane, shovel, bulldozer, roller, loadmaster, mixer, these are just a few of the many designs of tonka toys they created.

In the late seventies and early eighties tonka moved in to the rescue vehicle category and produced designs such as the fire engine, car carrier, ambulance, earth mover, these tonka's became extremely popular because of the realistic way they were designed with every little detail adhered to.

Up to the present day tonka are still producing high quality durable tonka toys, they have even produced the first ever talking truck named as "chuck my talking truck" this is very popular with the younger age group.

Tonka have said that they intend on producing tonka toys that are even more durable than the previous versions, and that there is going to be more designs introduced to complement the already substantial array.
